Is ABA Therapy Right for My Child?

January 22, 2025

Applied behavior analysis therapy – also known as ABA therapy – is an evidence-based approach designed to improve or modify specific behaviors in a structured and positive way. ABA therapy is widely recognized as the most effective treatment for autism spectrum disorder.

But how can ABA therapy help your child? At Butterfly Effects, we believe that every child has incredible potential. By working closely with families, Butterfly Effects offers personalized ABA therapy solutions that create meaningful and lasting progress. Let’s explore how ABA therapy can give your child and family a brighter future.

A step-by-step process

ABA therapy works by breaking down essential skills into smaller, more manageable steps. These steps are taught one at a time, building on each other to help children affected by autism spectrum disorder achieve larger goals like learning functional communication, developing social relationships, and replacing challenging behavior with socially beneficial behaviors.

Throughout this process, therapists use positive reinforcement – such as praise or favorite items – to build on your child’s progress as they master each small step and move forward.

Skill Development

ABA therapy uses techniques like reinforcement, prompting, shaping, and others to teach your child new skills and replace challenging behaviors with more appropriate ones. It’s not just about addressing your child’s problem behaviors – it’s also about helping them build life-enriching skills in areas like social interaction, reading, academics, communication, fine motor coordination, problem solving, grooming, hygiene, personal independence and even job readiness as they age.

At Butterfly Effects, our goal is to work hand-in-hand with families to create a path toward greater independence and joy for their child.

Family plays a major part

We know how important family is in a child’s life, and that’s why we see you as a partner in the process. Your insights about your child will help guide the personalized strategies we develop – because ABA therapy should never be one-size-fits-all.

Together, we will design a tailored treatment plan that fits naturally into your child’s everyday environment and also meets your family’s specific needs and priorities. Butterfly Effects is here to support your family every step of the way.

Therapy where your child thrives

We offer in-home, in-center, and in-school ABA therapy services, giving your child the opportunity to learn and practice their skills in a comfortable, familiar setting (your home) as well as public settings with same-age peers.

Each of these locations has unique benefits. For instance, in-home services offer the most flexibility for your family’s schedule and allow siblings and other family members to participate. Butterfly Effects ABA centers keep your child engaged throughout the day as they move between learning pods and participate in activities using advanced learning tools. If your child’s school allows access, we can collaborate with their teacher(s) and make ABA therapy part of their classroom routine.

Closely monitored

With Butterfly Effects, you don’t have to wonder how your child’s therapy is going. Our team closely tracks your child’s progress every day, and our Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) reviews this data weekly to make sure the treatment plan is working. Families also have immediate availability to a secure online portal to review their child’s programs, schedule, and progress.

This regular review allows us to adjust teaching methods, set new priorities, and provide any necessary training for your family or your child’s therapy team – whatever it takes to help your child succeed.
